We love our pooches so much that we can never give them too much love! If you weren’t already aware, you can spoil them even more with a good massage! Just as for humans, it seems that massaging a dog can provide many benefits, including relaxing muscles and reducing tension. If you’ve never tried it before, don't wait any longer! In addition to doing your canine good, a massage will allow you to spend some pleasant time together. However, here are a few tips to make the experience a success.

1. Make sure your dog appreciates it
Before you begin to put into practice the many techniques you’ve found on YouTube, start by testing the waters. To do this, find a quiet, comfortable place to settle down with your pet. Then, make sure they are comfortable and start by petting them. Once your dog is relaxed, you can gently start the massage.

2. Choose the right spots
If your pet usually exhibits discomfort or dislike when you stroke certain parts of their body, avoid trying to massage them there. On the other hand, if, for example, your dog loves it when you pat their head, you may want to start there. However, it is important not to apply too much pressure. Also, be careful not to create stress for your dog. To avoid this, be sure you use the palm of your hand, making circular movements. Go very gently, especially around the neck and in areas that are likely to be more sensitive.

3. Watch for signs
Throughout the massage, you should remain attentive to signs of discomfort or pain that your pet may be sending you. If some areas seem to be less pleasurable for your animal than others, avoid them. In addition, when you massage your dog, you should pay attention to any lumps or abnormalities. If you notice any, you can discuss them with your veterinarian to make sure it’s nothing serious.

4. Stay informed
A main purpose of the massage is obviously to spend quality time together. So make sure you are sufficiently informed about techniques and perform them with care. If you are hesitant, ask for advice from an animal health expert who can certainly coach you in this new activity!
