The rabbits we abandon

The rabbits we abandon

May 10, 2019

They're definitely adorable, with their long ears and silky fur. So perhaps it shouldn't come as a surprise that so many people succumb to the temptation of giving a bunny as a gift. But rabbits—just like other animals—need a lot of care, which can cost up to $1,560 in their first year of life, alone. And, in the months following Easter, Rabbit Rescue in Cambridge, Ontario, takes in 80 to 90 rabbits that have been abandoned by their new owners. Considering adopting a rabbit? Give it some serious thought: caring for a rabbit means making a commitment to a cute, furry family member who can live from 8 to 12 years. (Violaine Charest-Sigouin)
