Registering your pet with your municipality

March 15, 2021

Did you know that many municipalities require citizens who own pets to register them? Failure to licence your pet with your municipality can result in a fine. Every city operates differently, but most keep a registry, which makes it easier to find a lost pet and return it to its owner more quickly. The cost of licensing an animal also enables municipalities to organize certain pet-related activities. By registering your animal, you increase your chances of finding it quickly if it gets lost. For added security, you can also use microchipping, which is compulsory for cats and dogs in some municipalities. For more information about registering your pets, you can contact your municipality directly. (Katrine Joncas)
