Chaser is a genius. For the first 3 years of her life, this Border Collie studied at Wofford College in South Carolina, where she learned to recognize over a thousand words. It's no surprise that her owner, Dr John Pilley, had been a professor of psychology there. With the help of his colleagues, Dr Pilley taught his dog to associate the names of her toys with the objects themselves. By age 7, Chaser could understand simple sentences. Today, this adorable dog prodigy is happily enjoying retirement, while continuing to demonstrate exceptional intelligence. (Violaine Charest-Sigouin)
